World of Warcraft Launches In-Game Homes for Players with Help from IRL Property Platform Zillow

Blizzard’s upcoming ‘Midnight’ expansion for its long-running RPG finally allows players to buy homes; LBB’s Ben Conway speaks with 72andSunny and Zillow about creating the immersive ‘Zillow for Warcraft’ experience to engage millennial gamers

On March 2nd, the video game ‘World of Warcraft’ will launch its new ‘Midnight’ expansion and realise a dream shared by many of its players – the dream of owning a home.

As the much anticipated player housing feature goes live, letting gamers finally become residents of Azeroth, the game’s developer Blizzard Entertainment has partnered with real estate platform Zillow to introduce ‘Zillow for Warcraft’.

The microsite allows anyone to browse a curated collection of in-game homes, highlighting a mix of player-favourite creations, as well as early looks at Blizzard-built homes inspired by iconic World of Warcraft (WoW) styles. The site is complete with all the features you’d expect from Zillow, including 3D home tours and SkyTour-style visuals, offering immersion that’s also full of details from Warcraft’s worldbuilding.

It's a collaboration orchestrated by Stagwell's creative agency 72andSunny, which works on the creative marketing for both Zillow and Blizzard. “We are always looking for ways to bring together our incredible partners to create partnerships, and work that resonates with their shared audiences in culture – and to stoke love and fandom,” says Bryan Rowles, 72andSunny’s chief creative officer at large, speaking with LBB.

Seeing the player housing launch as the perfect opportunity for one such partnership, he explains that 72andSunny started with audience research to find a crossover between the Zillow and WoW audiences. “The proof was kismet: World of Warcraft’s core audience, many of whom are millennials, are also potential first-time home buyers.”

After pitching the idea to Blizzard and Zillow's executive teams individually in early 2025, the agency connected both brands in real life at Stagwell’s Sport Beach in Cannes. An hour-long jam session later, the project had liftoff. “A new, fun experience where the shared audience learned about the new ‘World of Warcraft’ home building feature, while also experiencing all of Zillow’s state-of-the-art homebuying features.”

To make this happen, 72andSunny worked closely with Studio Z, Zillow’s internal creative studio, and Blizzard’s development team to sketch out the best starting homes to showcase. The teams then partnered with LA-based creative production studio, We Are Royale, to design and develop the microsite itself, utilising their prior experience with Blizzard games.

“We Are Royale brought our shared vision of ‘Zillow for Warcraft’ to life and ensured the experience stayed true to both worlds,” says Jen Berger, VP of creative and performance media at Zillow. “We also worked with them to produce the video content for this campaign, featuring our Zillow partner agents, Hazyl Fizzlehorn and Bek’tar Donhammar.”

To reward fans for visiting the site, players unlock a free in-game item by connecting their WoW account. Little details have been threaded throughout the copy as well – mentions of iconic in-world locations and drops of character lore – an “enjoyable challenge” for 72andSunny’s creatives.

The WoW partnership is part of Zillow's new 2026 brand platform, ‘Someday Starts Today’ – marketing centred around “possibility”, says Jen. “[It’s] about helping people move from imagining ‘home’ to experiencing it. In WoW, players have imagined housing for years. Now they can explore it. That mirrors what we do in the real world. We help people visualise what is possible so they feel confident taking the next step.”

However, the campaign is not all about converting gamers from Zillow in Azeroth to Zillow proper, in a literal sense, but rather about generating long-term brand familiarity. “If someone associates Zillow with exploration, creativity and possibility, we have built something meaningful that will last beyond this activation,” Jen adds.

“Gaming is mainstream. It’s creative, community-driven and global. At its core, this moment was about something very human: designing a place of your own.” She continues, “Zillow exists at the centre of how people imagine, explore and get home. So instead of asking how we insert ourselves into WoW, we asked how we could honour this moment in a way that felt authentic to both brands and to the fans who have been waiting for it.”

It’s not the first time Zillow has launched work like this; the brand has previously partnered with Marvel Studios to bring the Fantastic Four’s Baxter Building to life as a fictional listing, created playful custom brand listings like the Pillsbury Doughboy’s home, and even listed Santa’s house. Similarly, Blizzard has also recently partnered with other brands, like Pinterest, to bring Azeroth into the real world.

According to William Nader, group brand director at 72andSunny, ‘World of Warcraft’ particularly lends itself to these kinds of campaigns, as it has “always been rooted in self-expression.” Its in-game cosmetics and customisation have remained an omnipresent heartbeat of the community since its launch in 2004.

“The game has inherent permission to insert itself into different worlds that align with self-expression and wonder in a way that feels personal,” William explains. “WoW’s magical realism and colourful style allow it to partner with real-world brands in surprising and fun ways where, even if you aren’t a gamer, you can still smile at some of the crossovers.”

“This is a highly engaged, creative, community-driven audience,” Jen adds. “Both Zillow users and WoW players spend time imagining, personalising and exploring space. That shared behaviour is where the strategic alignment lives.”

For her, this campaign also signals an exciting development of Zillow as a platform. “Millions visit Zillow every month, gamers included, and ‘Zillow for Warcraft’ illustrates the kinds of immersive, culturally relevant experiences our platform can support. This was not about simple visibility. It required thoughtful creative integration and custom execution, translating our core home exploration capabilities into an entirely new environment rooted in imagination, exploration and identity.”

This style of collaboration is now a tried-and-tested strategy, which Jen promises the brand will utilise going forward. “You will continue to see us lean into moments where home is part of the cultural conversation in ways that feel thoughtful and genuinely fun. We have more collaborations ahead this year, including a music partnership that explores the emotional meaning of coming home.”
