Venmo is on a mission to evolve its brand from simply a peer-to-peer money transfer app into a rewarding money movement app for the next generation. To help achieve this, the PayPal-owned mobile payment company has sought the assistance of ‘I Love LA’ stars Rachel Sennott and Jordan Firstman.
To announce the expansion of its Stash rewards programme, now offering users cashback at more stores like Sephora, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut, Venmo and its creative agency partner 72andSunny LA invited the real-life best friends and zillenial icons into the writers room. The result is a series of humorous films that feel more like candid conversations than ads.
The first film, ‘Between Friends: How Much You Can Do with Venmo’, launched this week on socials and YouTube, along with tongue-in-cheek photography of the screen partners. Directed by Stink Films’Ramez Silyan, the series was shot on 35mm film by ‘Anora’ cinematographer Drew Daniels, and features original music from Mura Masa.
With each film showing how the Venmo app is more than just a way to pay friends back, Rachel and Jordan worked with 72andSunny to shape everything throughout the series, from the copy to the wardrobe to the final cuts.

The next films will roll out later this month, and the campaign is targeting gen z where they’re already spending time, across social media, OOH, streaming, podcasts and audio.
Venmo isn’t the first brand this year to tap into Rachel Sennott as an effective conduit for gen z and younger millennial attention, either. In February, she joined music artist and ‘The Moment’ co-star Charli xcx in a ‘vibey’ Super Bowl spot for PepsiCo’s poppi beverage that was heavily geared towards the younger generations.
