Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos Reunite for Squarespace Super Bowl Teaser

The Oscar winner and her director-of-choice team up once again, following success with 'Bugonia', 'Poor Things' and more, for an ominous Big Game spot created in-house by the website brand, reports LBB's Ben Conway

Squarespace has launched a second Super Bowl teaser, revealing that its Big Game ad for Super Bowl LX will reunite Academy Award-winning actor Emma Stone with director and long-time collaborator, Yorgos Lanthimos (via Superprime Films).

The Greek auteur was also recently confirmed to be directing Grubhub's Super Bowl spot, made with Anomaly

Created in-house at Squarespace, 'Unavailable' will be Emma Stone's Big Game debut and marks yet another creative collaboration between her and Yorgos, following their work together on 'The Favourite', 'Poor Things' and, most recently 'Bugonia', for which Emma has received an Oscar nomination.

The teaser film comes after the brand shared a mysterious greyscale image of a lonely house on a rock in the sea earlier this month. This latest teaser takes us, presumably, inside this eerie building and offers an emotionally charged glimpse into the upcoming spot.

The 15-second clip opens, again in high-contrast black and white footage, on a teary Emma Stone. Visibly distressed, the close-up shot captures her glistening, watery eyes and sharp intakes of breath, with nothing but the darkness and the crackling of a fire for company.

Leaving viewers with the mystery of what provoked such a powerful reaction, the film then cuts to the house shown in the still image teaser, zooming out with ominous strings playing, the crash of waves and seagulls laughing. Two words are emblazoned against the dark backdrop: 'February Eighth' -- the date of the Super Bowl.

The campaign is also supported by several posters, launched today, which reveal the film's subheading: 'A Requiem of Unrepentant Anguish'.

The website-building brand has already confirmed that the full 30-second spot will air between the first and second quarters of the Big Game, and that the film will tell a 'deeply human story', grounded in a clear and compelling call to action.

This follows Squarespace's 10-year-plus tradition of bringing ambitious in-house creative to the Super Bowl, having previously teamed up with the likes of director Martin Scorsese, and actors Adam Driver and Zendaya.

Discussing this approach when the first teaser image launched, Squarespace's chief brand and creative officer, David Lee, said that the brand's creative DNA lives at the intersection of Silicon Valley, Madison Avenue and Hollywood.

"We’re a tech company and our own brand-side agency, and we want our work to be indistinguishable from the cinema. All of our best creative work has been made in the overlap of that Venn diagram. The Super Bowl gives us a big stage to tell that story at scale."

Last year's campaign saw the brand team up with actor Barry Keoghan for 'A Tale as Old as Websites', directed by Biscuit's Steve Rogers.

The campaign also included additional content for digital channels, including a short film released ahead of the Big Game.
