Charli xcx Calls the Shots in 'Camera' Music Video

Charli xcx has released the official music video for 'Camera', directed by Aidan Zamiri and produced by Object & Animal. The fourth and final single before the release of her album Music, Fashion, Film this Friday, it stars French actor Vincent Cassel and was shot in a single unbroken take in black and white at Wrotham Quarry in Kent.

The video is built around the chaos of a film set - Charli directing, giving orders, keeping the scene together, while Cassel endures take after take, fake blood at the corner of his mouth.

Shooting it in one continuous take gives the whole thing a particular kind of pressure; there's nowhere to hide, and the camera never cuts away from whatever's happening. Zamiri, who has now directed all four singles from the album campaign, leans into that tension rather than smoothing it out.

Cassel - known for La Haine, Black Swan and lending his voice to Shrek - brings a deadpan willingness to the whole thing that makes the video genuinely funny as well as visually striking. The quarry location, vast and industrial, gives the mock film set a scale that contrasts with the more contained domestic settings of the earlier videos in the campaign.
