Verizon has capitalised on actor Connor Storrie’s infinitely popular backside in a short film that sees the ‘Heated Rivalry’ star and his butt take centre stage.
Created by agency X&O and directed by Nia DaCosta in a collaboration between De La Revolución and PRETTYBIRD, the genre-bending short titled ‘Look Behind You’ marks Connor’s first brand film and Nia’s first brand project, having previously helmed ‘Candyman’ and ‘28 Days Later: The Bone Temple’.
“The collaboration and creative process was pure magic,” said Verizon EVP and chief marketing officer Leslie Berland to Variety. “We set out to bring Verizon’s network to life in a way that’s bold and unexpected, and we’re thrilled with the result. Nia is an absolute artist, and Connor is simply a phenomenon.”
The film begins with Connor using his mobile phone to unlock a cabin door with Verizon’s smart home security system, before placing it unlocked into his back pocket. Connor settles at home, lights a fire, learns lines and begins to cook dinner, only to have his solitude frequently interrupted by electronic devices, from heavy metal music on the stereo to a blaring house alarm.
Becoming more and more agitated by the flickering lights, ringing landline and messages from an unknown number, stating ‘I’m coming for you’ and ‘I’m here’, Connor takes matters into his own hands, grabbing the knife he was using to prepare food and heading to answer the knock at the front door.
The hooded figure at the door exclaims, “I’ve been waiting for you,” before identifying himself as a rideshare driver. At this point, realisation dawns on Connor: his torment was of his own making, and his butt-dialling behind was the culprit.
The film ends with a montage of Connor’s butt dial mishaps, as text reads, “The Best Butt. The Best Network. There’s No Escape.”
Before Connor voices the final line, “Service so good, it’s scary.”
