Tribeca X Selects WARD's ‘The Philipstown WireCar Grand Prix’

Following growing international acclaim, The Philipstown WireCar Grand Prix has been selected for the 2026 Tribeca X Official Selection, building on a remarkable run of international recognition that includes multiple Gold, Silver and Bronze wins at The One Show, a Webby Award for Documentary Storytelling, a Bronze Clio Award for Branded Entertainment: Culture & Influence, and shortlist recognition at both the D&AD Awards and AICP Next Awards.

Directed by WARD (Paul Ward) and produced by Giant Films, The Philipstown WireCar Grand Prix tells the story of a small Karoo town where generations of children have transformed discarded materials into handmade wire racing cars, creating a uniquely South African tradition that speaks to ingenuity, resilience and community. What began as a local story has resonated far beyond South Africa, with international juries recognising the film's distinctive blend of documentary craft, cultural authenticity and social impact.

Developed in collaboration with the Philipstown WireCar Foundation and Accenture Song South Africa, the project extends beyond the screen through ongoing initiatives that support youth development, community participation and access to opportunity through the sport of wire-car racing.
