Rodeo FX Unpacks VFX Artistry Behind Latest Michel Gondry Chanel Ad

Working with Partizan, the Paris advertising team supported Michel Gondry’s in-camera approach on Chanel’s CHANEL 25 film, using custom VFX workflows to enable real-time compositing, seamless continuity and the film’s looping visual structure

For its latest Spring campaign dedicated to the CHANEL 25 HANDBAG, Chanel partnered with Michel Gondry to create a film with a distinctive creative signature. For the occasion, Rodeo FX’s Paris advertising team stepped into the renowned director’s world, bringing its VFX expertise to the project in collaboration with Partizan.

Conceived as an ode to Michel's iconic Come Into My World music video for Kylie Minogue from the 90s, the film unfolds as a seamless urban choreography. Margot Robbie moves through a vibrant Paris, multiplying across shots in a perfectly orchestrated visual loop, crossing paths along the way with Kylie Minogue herself, an essential figure of the original work.

To bring this vision to life, the VFX team on set developed a custom rotoscope workflow, combining performance capture, pass alignment, and near-instant integration of the actress’s multiple iterations. This setup enabled real-time preview of the final composition, allowing for on-the-spot adjustments to timing and interactions, while ensuring perfect continuity between takes. True to Michel Gondry’s inventive approach—where effects come to life directly in-camera—this process allowed the film to take shape before the team’s eyes, almost in real time.

"Working with Michel Gondry means embracing a very hands-on, in-camera approach. Our role was to support that vision as seamlessly as possible, relying on tools that could adapt to the process rather than redefine it," said Stéphane Allender, VFX supervisor
"In post-production, subtle set extensions and sky replacements were crafted to complete the picture, enriching the atmosphere of a Parisian spring while preserving the spontaneity and charm of the original concept."

This project comes at a particularly dynamic moment for Rodeo FX’s Paris team. Recently settled into new studio spaces, the team now benefits from closer proximity to Mikros Animation, with access to a broader network of talent across the group. Building on this momentum, the team continues to take on high-profile collaborations while expanding its presence within the international advertising market.
