Nick Hutcheson and Julia Deakin joins the Toronto advertising team as creative director and executive producer

Rodeo FX’s Toronto office has welcomed Julia Deakin as creative director and Nick Hutcheson as executive producer, bringing deep expertise and fresh perspectives to bolster the studio’s work across its advertising and experiental services. The studio behind the VFX of BLACKPINK’s JUMP and Wednesday Season 2, is excited to continue growing its presence in the city and expanding its offering.

In the world of advertising, there are those who manage logistics, and then there are those who engineer the magic. Nick Hutcheson decidedly belongs to the latter, approaching his work not merely as a facilitator, but as a master stage-setter. He operates on a core philosophy: brilliant work is born when craft & post production artists are fiercely protected and equipped with the space to dream.

It’s a philosophy that has undeniably paid off. Whether he is orchestrating the sweeping visual poetry of a global Stella Artois campaign or navigating the profound, human stakes of innocence Canada a Cannes winning rebrand, Nick has spent over 15 years proving that behind every great piece of visual storytelling is a leader who understands exactly how to build the room where it happens. Now stepping into a pivotal role at Rodeo FX, he is bringing that exact alchemy to Toronto’s most ambitious canvases.

“To me, producing is about creating the right space for artists to fully realise their vision - bringing together people who are truly obsessed with their craft. Joining Rodeo FX feels like a natural fit, and the perfect opportunity to do exactly that.” said Nick Hutcheson, executive producer.

Julia’s career is a masterclass in multidisciplinary evolution, beginning in visual effects, expanding into design and motion, and coming full circle to fuse both at Rodeo FX. Armed with a specialised background in illustration, she has steered creative teams at premier studios like Tendril, IAMSTATIC, and CRUSH. Her visionary work includes serving as VFX Supervisor on the iconic Dexter promo - now enshrined in MoMA’s permanent collection.

Recently shaping the creative vision for Netflix’s Wayward, Julia seamlessly blends tactile, craft-driven artistry with high-end digital integration. Renowned for cultivating joyful, deeply aligned teams, she champions design-infused VFX, motion, and title sequences. At Rodeo, she unites with top-tier talent to pioneer her next wave of boundary-pushing work.

“The depth of talent at Rodeo FX is truly inspiring. Being surrounded by artists at this level means there’s no limit to how far we can push ideas and craft.” said Julia Deakin, creative director.

“With Julia and Nick joining the team, we’re doubling down on our ambition in Toronto, bringing together world-class creativity and production leadership to take on our most ambitious projects yet.” said Ryan Stasyshyn, head of Toronto office and VFX supervisor.

Nick and Julia’s expertise was rapidly put to good use as the advertising department of the Toronto office has several on-going projects, notably for Drake's latest released album Iceman, and a collaboration with Nike NOCTA.
