Michel Gondry Multiplies Margot Robbie for Chanel

Michel Gondry is back behind the camera for Chanel’s latest handbag campaign starring Margot Robbie, after directing Margaret Qualley and A$AP Rocky for a Métiers d’Art 2026 show promo film for the brand at the end of last year.

With production from Partizan, the film is a contemporary reimaging of Kylie Minogue’s ‘Come Into My World’ music video (also directed by Gondry) with the pop star herself making an appearance 25 years after the release of her track.​ She pops up in the window and can be seen passing Robbie in the street, wearing the same colours as in the original video but this time it’s all Chanel.

The film sees multiples of Robbie make their way down a picture-perfect Parisian street, though it was shot pretty far from any authentic cobblestones on a sound stage in Los Angeles. In the background is the hum of modern life, full of characters getting on with their (stylish) days.

Dressed in items from the latest Chanel collection from creative director Matthieu Blazy – a relaxed tweed jacket, a white tank top, and wide leg jeans – they model their Chanel 25 handbags in various colours and sizes with playfulness and ease. The bag is said to embody ‘practical, effortless elegance’ and the mood of the film highlights the bag’s features – via Michel’s lens – as fit for modern life, with all its twists and turns.

Naturally, the film is soundtracked by the pop hit it’s paying homage to, effectively making Robbie a stand-in for the Aussie singer.

This film, alongside the Métiers d’Art 2026 show promo film, builds a new visual language for the French fashion house. One that speaks via classic, unmistakable Chanel codes while rendering them fresh and reflective of modern life.
