Who better to teach college students how to turn 5% cash back into absurd college flexes than a rapper named Cash Cobain? Amazon wanted to to make financial independence feel funny, unexpected, and actually entertaining for its gen z audience in its latest campaign.
"Cash Cobain's growing momentum, especially on college campuses, gave us the perfect opportunity to make the Prime for Young Adults '5% cash back' message breakthrough in a funny, surprising, and genuinely entertaining way." said Jo Shoesmith VP, global chief brand officer, Amazon.
In the video, Amazon staged an on-campus stunt where Cash 'Back' Cobain hijacks an Economics 101 lecture to drop some real financial knowledge. Through an unhinged rap lecture, he schools unsuspecting college students on 5% cash back - and why it's finally time to stop sharing a Prime account with their parents and sign up for a Prime for Young Adults account.
"Everybody wants to live a little larger. If you can save on the everyday stuff and still level up your life with your own Prime membership, that's a win.” said Cash Cobain.
Prime for Young Adults is a membership for 18–24-year-olds that includes the benefits of Prime plus exclusive deals, like 5% cash back on eligible categories: Beauty, Apparel, Electronics, PCs, and Health & Personal Care.
Since posting on his socials, fans have flocked to the comments loving lyrics like 'ain’t that right Denise' and feeling like Cash has given them a reason to shop at Amazon.
The content will live in paid social across TikTok, Meta, Reddit, YouTube and selected premium streaming.
