The first chapter of the Creator Economy was led by independent Creators. Yet they were siloed, disconnected and under-resourced.

Creators have been moving at the speed of culture and have been searching for a place to connect, learn and grow.

So we created a place for them.

The Lighthouse, an I.R.L purpose-built campus with Creators at the core that connects Hollywood, entertainment and media.

This was a trajectory we anticipated having worked intimately with Creators as their talent managers and a Creator-marketing agency. Creators were growing into entrepreneurs, beyond the platforms and into the real world, and that meant we had to transform our offering and provide a place that would help support, nurture, inspire and develop their journeys.

We secured founding partners and investment from individuals and organizations who supported our vision of a

mixed-use space and community with a college campus mindset and incubator energy. The Lighthouse was built as a place for Creators to build their businesses and serve as a platform for brands and other collaborators to partner and support.

Each campus features state-of-the-art, mixed-use content studios and hosts impactful programming that empowers members to collaborate, learn, and grow their businesses within a thriving community.

CREATIVE PLAYGROUND

It was the Creator community who explained what they needed and for whom we built a campus, co-working space, events space, and professional studios that include test kitchens, podcast studios, photo studios, music studio, analog studio, dressing rooms, DJ booths, but most of all, a place to find and collaborate with each other.

CREATOR COUNCIL

From the start, The Lighthouse has been shaped by a Creator Council, co-chaired by industry thought-leaders Colin & Samir.

PARTNERS

The Lighthouse secured founding partnerships with major players: Shopify, iHeartMedia, Samsung, TikTok, and

Tribeca Festival. Each of them deeply integrated into the Lighthouse ecosystem to provide tangible opportunities for Creators e.g. Shopify pop-up experiential program.

• Our (founding partner) iHeart's incubator development program has four Lighthouse Venice creators developing their podcasts as part of the iHeart network, demonstrating how The Lighthouse accelerates creator IP development and distribution pathways.

• Strategic introductions to Lionsgate, Universal, Shopify, and iHeart have led to creator deals, pilots, mentorships, and project development.

• Fox Advertising invested in The Lighthouse to fuel their Creator-led IP initiative. Immersive brand storytelling and franchise development for them - capital, credibility, and pathways to scalable, IP-driven entertainment for The Lighthouse and its members.

• The Lighthouse has become a destination for major entertainment launches, positioning us at the center of

traditional and social media convergence e.g. Jordan Peele debuted the trailer for his film 'Him' at the campus, a feat that would typically occur at a major festival or studio lot.

LOCATIONS

We hunted for the right kind of real estate that could fit our ambitions and feel genuinely rooted in the local

community and our ethos. For the first Lighthouse we found the historic Venice Post Office, a historic connection point. Our 2nd is the former Eberhard Faber Pencil Factory, a maker of creative tools. We've now opened 57,000 sq ft of creative space and created a coast-to-coast network supporting Creators in a

wholly unique way.

RESTORATION & DESIGN

In keeping with our mission to support Creators and ‘liberate the creative voice’ we worked with an up-and-coming designer, Nathan Warkentin who renovated the interior with Bauhaus principles as inspiration.

The layout encourages frictionless collaboration across multiple disciplines, across analogue and digital crafts. By blending hospitality and studio spaces, the layout enables a social atmosphere for serendipity. Creators are inspired to co-create and move from idea to execution seamlessly.

The historic Venice Post Office was the first location to be transformed into The Lighthouse.

(A 1941 painting in the lobby by Edward Biberman “Abbot Kinney and the Story of Venice” was removed during

construction, displayed at LACMA and then returned to its original location in the lobby after construction.)

Our 2nd, even bigger Lighthouse in Brooklyn, involved restoring the historic Eberhard Faber Pencil Factory, dating back to the 19th century. Both buildings' industrial-era heritage is combined with contemporary cultural references for inspirational and approachable workspaces. Classic furniture pieces from USM, Artek, Vitra, Herman Miller mix with the comforting aesthetics of libraries and '90s college radio to provide a fresh and inspiring place to create. Throughout both locations the layout is purposefully designed to enable frictionless collaboration across multiple disciplines, across analogue and digital crafts. By blending hospitality and studio spaces, the spatial layout enables an efficient and social atmosphere.

The "greenest" building is the one already standing. The Lighthouse sought to remain low-impact or sustainable by choosing adaptive reuse. We avoided the massive carbon footprint associated with new demolition and construction.

LAUNCH FESTIVAL

The Lighthouse opened by hosting an inaugural Campus Festival, a two-day event celebrating and showcasing top talent in food, podcasting, filmmaking, and music, to accelerate the convergence of social media, traditional media, and entertainment.

PROGRAMMING

Our professional development programming fosters growth, innovation, and the exchange of ideas through

workshops, expert-led discussions, and collaborative sessions. It adapts to the needs of our community, providing opportunities to gain new skills, refine expertise, and draw inspiration from industry leaders and peers. Examples include:

• Reid Hoffman and Will.i.am hosting masterclasses on AI and creativity, respectively.

• Jordan Peele debuted the trailer for his film ‘Him’ at The Lighthouse.

• iHeartMedia brought 2 of their top podcast producers to lead sessions on the art of audio storytelling.

A CREATOR-FIRST EXPERIENTIAL MARKETPLACE

The Lighthouse and Shopify partnered to develop a one-of-a-kind pop-up experiential program, featuring a co-

designed physical integration, bringing top creators’ apparel, products and merchandise single or multi-day

activations across the campus.

• Examples include Serena Williams hosting a pop-up for her WYN Beauty range.

SCALABLE

The Lighthouse co-launched Scalable, a media company built to help the business world make sense of the Creator Economy, with two journalists who quit to become full-time Creators.

THE LIGHTHOUSE STUDIOS

• Lighthouse Studios is a new business unit of The Lighthouse and is the first Creator-led entertainment studio

designed to help Creators build scalable media networks and original IP. A strategic evolution that follows from the physical and operational Lighthouse foundation.

Our first partnership is with Lyrical Lemonade TV (LLTV), a joint venture bringing original shows, artist-driven

storytelling, and emerging creative formats to audiences.

In summary, we have transformed how we serve our core clients: Creators.

Through the launch of The Lighthouse, after years of getting to know and understand Creators and their needs, we have changed what and how we're able to serve them as well as those seeking to collaborate.

It has transformed the way Creators find each other and collaborate (clue: instantly). It has transformed the ways in which brands, entertainment and media companies engage and can work with Creators.

As our Co-CEO puts it, "There is life before The Lighthouse and life after The Lighthouse and it’s a different world."
