The backsplitting spot feels graphic but not scary, LBB’s Lilya Murray writes

SICKDOGWOLFMAN’s sunscreen brand SLATHER turned heads with its skin-peeling launch film at the end of 2024. A year later, and its latest spot is no exception.

Building on the SFX of the first film, ‘Buy Stuff’ features graphic scenes of a man’s entire back being pulled off by the sun. Even SDWM’s creative director Jess Wheelerfound it “shocking”.

It’s a clever approach for the category (as Jess exclusively told LBB, the brand wants to be “entertainment first”) and will surely scare men into using sunscreen. The intensity and urgency of the in-your-face infomercial successfully conveys suncare as a serious matter, yet doesn’t feel condescending. My favourite aspect is the film feels grotesque and comedic without feeling gratuitous and scary.

The sun is most definitely not your friend.
