The platform also announced its first chief business officer, with the twin appointments aimed at scaling its global advertising business, LBB’s Tom Loudon reports

Pinterest has nabbed Amazon’s global brand and marketing VP, Claudine Cheever, appointing her chief marketing officer. She replaces Andréa Mallard, who recently took over as Microsoft AI CMO.

At Amazon, she oversaw five Super Bowl campaigns and the launch of flagship products including Alexa. At Pinterest, Claudine will oversee marketing, creative, and communications.

In a LinkedIn post, Claudine thanked Pinterest CEO Bill Ready and “all the talented people who have built and scaled this platform with conviction.”

“I’m excited to help Pinterest grow in this next chapter, all while staying true to what makes it special: a place where people come to feel inspired, take action, and shop, all in a more positive place online,” she wrote.

“What really hooked me is how Pinterest stands apart from other social and search platforms. The platform is rooted in intention, not reaction. People come to Pinterest to save, curate, evolve their interests, and shop. That’s not just inspiring. It’s fundamentally different.

“The signals Pinterest receives are grounded in curiosity and intent. They open up a more thoughtful and meaningful way to connect brands with people. Pinterest is able to reach people at the exact moment when inspiration turns into action. It’s marketing that is additive and helpful to people. For marketers, this is especially powerful.”

Pinterest also named Doordash chief revenue officer and former Spotify global head of advertising Lee Brown as the platform’s first-ever chief business officer to oversee sales, content, advertising, product marketing, and customer-facing operations.

Tasked with accelerating Pinterest’s evolution into a performance-driven advertising platform, Lee will report directly to CEO Bill Ready.

Incoming Pinterest CBO, Lee Brown.

“I’ve experienced the magic of Pinterest firsthand,” Lee wrote of his appointment.

“Pinterest is operating at a remarkable scale. Every month, 600 million active users make 80 billion queries. They come to the platform with intent, whether that’s redecorating their home, planning a birthday party, or styling their everyday outfits. This is why it has become a go-to search, inspiration, and shopping destination, especially for Gen Z, which makes up more than 50% of its audience.”

He added the platform stands out as a place where “user taste meets real intent”, powered by advances in AI and performance advertising at scale.

“What truly sets Pinterest apart is its belief in making the internet a more positive space for everyone. This is a vision this team is deeply committed to. Alongside this exceptional team, I can't wait to be part of the next chapter of Pinterest as we work together to take the company to the next level.”

While 83% of Pinterest users are outside the US and Canada, international markets currently account for 25% of revenue.

The chief business officer role sees content, ads product marketing, programmatic, and customer operations all under one umbrella for the first time, which Pinterest expects will help supercharge and scale global monetisation efforts.

Pinterest has also recently added new revenue opportunities, with an agreement to acquire tvScientific and first-of-its-kind content initiatives like ‘Bring My Pinterest to Life’.
