‘Mission to Wreck’ launches the team's 2026 World Cup kit, LBB’s Lilya Murray reports

Wieden + Kennedy Sydney has created brand platform ‘Mission to Wreck’ for Nike, launching the Socceroos’ 2026 World Cup kit, and seeing one player drive a bulldozer across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The hero film stars player Nestory Irankunda as he drives the Socceroos-themed bulldozer throughout Sydney in an effort to arrive at the World Cup. The words ‘Mission to Wreck’ are emblazoned on the ‘scoop’ of the machine.

Easter eggs are scattered throughout, such as ‘OI OI OI’ on the numberplate (a reference to the popular ‘Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi’ chant) and a 31-0 vehicle model number (a reference to the team’s world-record setting victory for an international game).

The words ‘I told you so’ are quoted on a brick wall as a reference to legendary former Socceroo Johnny Warren, who said that a few weeks before he passed away from cancer in 2004, as a testament to the legacy he’d wanted to leave on soccer in Australia.

The final frame is the team’s logo and the words ‘Say goodbye to those big plans’: a warning to the Socceroos’ World Cup competitors.

The film launched on Nike’s TikTok, garnering 10 million views and igniting creator’s reactions.

It also coincides with the launch of Nike’s Australian 2026 football kits in March. The home kit is inspired by the Socceroos’ iconic 2006 design, and the away kit reflects Australia’s sunrises and sunsets in cooler colours of pink and blue.

In the film, Nestory wears the home design and the away kit is placed over the driver’s seat of the bulldozer.

Martin Kugeler, Football Australia CEO, said, “The CommBank Socceroos are set to perform on the world stage with a clear intent to compete and succeed against the world’s best, and this new kit reflects that ambition.

"Socceroos kits become part of Australian football history, forever tied to defining moments and performances and we look forward to seeing the Socceroos represent the country with pride in this jersey on the global stage. Football Australia is proud to have partnered with Nike for over 20 years."

Nike athlete and Socceroos player Jordan Bos said the kit has a “great traditional feel with the colours and the style and it feels unmistakably Australian.

“The away kit is a bit of a shift, feeling more modern and bolder with colours that are bright and unique. I look forward to wearing both the new kits on the world stage this summer.”

The kit was also designed with Nike’s Aero-FIT performance cooling technology, which increases airflow between skin and fabric to keep athletes cool. It is made entirely from textile waste through cutting edge chemical recycling of polyester yarn.

Sandra Hore, Nike Pacific vice president and general manager, said, “The 2026 kit is designed to spark belief, inspire the next generation, and unite fans behind a bold new era of Australian football.”
