The Henny-Rita Isn’t a Remix but a Whole New Rhythm

Summer’s not over until the last lime has been squeezed. While that’s not a common proverb (we literally made it up at the time of writing), it’s a fitting rule to live by for anyone willing summer to last just a few more weeks. Hennessy V.S is on board with its Henny-Rita, a remix of the beloved and typically tequila-based cocktail the brand launched as part of a wider Henny-Rita summer campaign. 

The campaign’s latest iteration is the interactive billboard that popped up at Kings Cross station in London and until Saturday September 30th. The enticing imagery beckons passers-by to grab a fresh lime straight from the installation and scan the on-site QR code to unlock the recipe for the Henny-Rita cocktail that replaces the tequila in a classic margarita ingredient list with Hennessy V.S. for a smooth twist. 

The Henny-Rita has been making waves all summer and popping up at some of the most talked about cultural events, Silverstone F1 and Wireless Festival, in the form of the Hennessy Social Club. At this year’s Wireless festival, the presence felt especially fitting as the headliner – Drake, across all nights – name-checked the brand in the hook for one of his biggest hits, ‘One Dance’. But Hennessy’s hip-hop roots run deeper and wider than just Drake. It might just be one of the most referenced brands in hip-hop and rap, popping in bars by Snoop Dog, 2Pac, Digital Underground, Yung Lean, Lil Wayne, Three 6ix Mafia, Ghostface Killah. And that’s not to mention the countless music videos it features in. 

Though Hennessy is most likely to be found neat in glass over ice, it’s always had a place in cocktails culture, starting with the classic champagne cocktail consisting of a sugar cube drenched in cognac and topped up with, you guessed it, champagne. The Henny-Rita is a modern, bolder expression of the role Hennessy can play in a mixed drink with the brand saying that it’s a redefinition of what a summer cocktail can be. Helpfully, there’s a recipe below to follow for anyone who wants to try one at home.

The Henny-Rita

Ingredients:

40 mL Hennessy V.S

20 mL Fresh lime juice

15 mL Orange liqueur

5 mL Agave syrup

Lime wedge (for garnish)

Pink salt for the rim

Method:

Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice.

Shake until well chilled and the outside of the shaker is frosty.

Strain into a salt-rimmed rocks glass filled with fresh ice.

Garnish with a lime wedge.

Sip, smile, and repeat all summer long.
