Awards Season is creeping up on us and the nominations for the 68th Annual GRAMMY Awards were announced last week! We’re very pleased that two of our Wise Music composers have been nominated, Anoushka Shankar and Ron Trent. To celebrate that, we’ve put their artistry in focus in this edition of Radio LBB.
Best Global Music Performance for 'Daybreak'
Best Global Music Album for 'Chapter III: We Return To Light'
To read a list of sitarist and composer Anoushka Shankar’s accomplishments is to read many life stories in one: prolific 13-time Grammy-nominated recording artist; touring veteran; film composer; artistic curator; published author; impassioned activist. She is a singular, genre-defying artist known for breaking new ground across realms, with a boundless commitment to forging connection, hope and peace through music, and she most recently released Chapter III: We Return to Light, the final part of a trilogy of mini-albums.
“This album and song represent an emergence from darkness into hope, healing and joy, which feels especially fitting for this moment. What started as an experiment in sound and storytelling via blank-slate recording sessions has become a living, breathing organism that keeps unfolding in the most beautiful ways.” said Anoushka Shankar.
Best Remixed Recording for 'A Dreams A Dream - Ron Trent Remix'
A perennial and innovative presence in soulful music and the arts, Ron Trent originally wanted to be an architect. Much as the purpose of good architecture is to improve the quality of life for those around it, Trent has built his career as an architect of house music, carrying that same ethos to the dancefloor. Trent most recently brought his signature touch to a collaboration with Soul II Soul, reimagining their classic 'A Dream’s a Dream' with a timeless yet forward-looking remix that bridges eras of soulful innovation.
“Soul II Soul touched me in a very special way when it came out in the '80s. When I was asked to do this remix, I felt like things came full circle (… ) It’s an honour and a pleasure to have touched this beautiful piece of work.” said Ron Trent.
