For brands looking to cut through the noise and connect with modern audiences, the 30-second spot is no longer the only finish line. As traditional industry lines continue the blur, the real race is Branded Entertainment - creating long-form, immersive content that audiences actually choose to watch, rooted in the lifestyle values of the brand or product.
Trainer Games, a ground breaking new reality competition series from global fitness leader iFIT, now streaming on Prime Video, is a perfect example of this. A high-concept unscripted reality series, focused on elite competition and fitness, brought to screen by fitness app IFit.
Over a year in the making, the project saw LS Productions team up with Sony Pictures Television - Nonfiction and Brass Monkeys Media to deliver a six-episode unscripted series filmed entirely on location in Mauritius.
But capturing 'paradise' is rarely a holiday. Here is how the LS Productions team turned a logistical mountain into a smooth production in one of its key Global Hubs.
Shooting a reality competition is a different beast from a commercial. It requires agility, endurance, and the ability to pivot the entire unit at a moment's notice.
As LS, MD and EP, Sarah Drummond, who spent time working and living in Mauritius on the production, says, ‘"Unscripted" means exactly that- you cannot predict the drama. When you add extreme physical challenges into the mix, the production service framework has to be bulletproof. We weren't just facilitating a shoot; we were building an operational backbone for a travelling circus of elite athletes, showrunners, and camera crews."

From moving heavy-lifting kit and equipment across rugged terrain to managing the unpredictable tropical weather, to the huge health and safety challenges around keeping the athletes safe, it was essential to ensure the focus remained on delivering the creative vision, and not the complex logistics threatening to 'derail it.’
LS Productions, have an industry reputation for people-first production and delivering exceptional service and this project was no different.
For the duration of the shoot, the LS Productions team didn’t just work in Mauritius - they lived it. Embedded on the island, the producers and fixers became part of the local ecosystem and an essential part of the wider team. This wasn't a 'fly-in, fly-out' job. It was a total immersion that lasted months.
There is a very specific camaraderie that builds when you are troubleshooting a high-stakes shoot in 30+ degree heat. The team served as the anchor for the visiting US and UK crews, bridging the gap between the often frantic pace of reality TV production and the island's local rhythm. It is this 'People People' culture; whether the team is in Manchester or Mauritius, it integrates, it supports, and it keeps the energy fearless.

LS Productions often talk about 'Intelligent Locations,' and Trainer Games is the perfect case study. Mauritius wasn't just a pretty backdrop; it was the antagonist of the show.
The location scouts were tasked with finding environments that would push the competitors to their breaking points. This meant bypassing the standard tourist postcards to find the grit within the beauty treacherous inclines for endurance runs and exposed beaches for strength tests. Paradise becomes a treacherous enemy for the athletes to overcome, delivering both jeopardy and a stunning canvas for the viewer to enjoy at home, promoting the fitness lifestyle.
LS Productions had the local knowledge to unlock these areas quickly and legally. The team knew who to call for the permits, which roads could handle the unit trucks, and exactly where the sun would hit at 4 PM for that 'golden hour' drama.

In the world of Branded Entertainment, high stakes on screen cannot mean any high risks off screen.
Working with partners like Prime Video and Sony demands a level of Operational Excellence that goes beyond just getting the shot. It means rigorous Health & Safety protocols to protect competitors pushing their physical limits. It means watertight ESG standards and financial integrity in a complex regulatory landscape. LS Productions handled all of this so the team could focus on the blood, sweat, and tears.
Trainer Games is more than just a TV show; it is a signal of where the industry is heading. Brands are becoming broadcasters, and they need production partners who can handle the scale of that ambition globally.
