Gatorade has debuted a new campaign, created with TBWA\Chiat\Day LA, ahead of the release of the ‘Stranger Things’ fifth and final season. Gatorade and Netflix have teamed up to launch ‘No Ordinary Athlete’ – a revival of Gatorade’s iconic 1987 ‘No Ordinary Thirst Quencher’ campaign with an Upside Down twist – because to fight extraordinary circumstances, you need extraordinary measures.
To kick off the campaign, Gatorade dropped a 30-second spot that shows in the moments when it's bigger than winning or losing, Gatorade is the thirst quencher for no ordinary battle. The spot sees the return of the catchy jingle from the ‘No Ordinary Thirst Quencher’ campaign and is narrated by ‘Stranger Things’ superfan and Gatorade roster athlete, Myles Garrett.
Additionally, impactful out-of-home takeovers are also planned across key markets including Times Square in NYC, Sunset Boulevard in LA, and outside Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, OH – home to the Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett.
The campaign also introduces the return of Citrus Cooler, a fan-favourite Gatorade flavour, reintroduced as a limited-time offering in five collectible bottles plus one Upside Down edition, all featuring retro Gatorade packaging.

The campaign also reveals two limited-edition capsules — ‘1987 Hawkins Capsule’ and ‘Upside Down Capsule’ — featuring ‘Stranger Things’-inspired drops with vintage apparel, retro Gatorade towels and more.
“As a huge Stranger Things fan, being able to bring what I do on the field and apply it to the 'No Ordinary Athlete' campaign has been an incredible experience, and doing it with Gatorade made it even better. I can’t wait for fans of Gatorade and Stranger Things to see the show and the campaign – it’s definitely something special,” said Myles Garrett, Gatorade athlete and Cleveland Browns All-Pro defensive end.

"For over 60 years, Gatorade, the OG sports drink, has fueled the world’s greatest athletes. Now in 1987 Hawkins, the crew is gearing up for the final battle with Gatorade—choosing no ordinary thirst quencher to fuel the extraordinary. The Gatorade Stranger Things 5 collaboration celebrates our authentic 1980s heritage by reviving iconic products and ads from our vault and pulling them into the 'Upside Down.' Just like the heroes of Stranger Things, Gatorade powers those who push limits and face the unknown,” said Anuj Bhasin, SVP of marketing, Gatorade.
