Online travel agent Expedia is sending Mattel’s Ken doll out as a first-time traveller in a vibrant Super Bowl spot, produced by BUCK in collaboration with stop-motion studio Bix Pix.
The ad comes as Ken celebrates his 65th Birthday. Tired of the monotony of life in his beachside abode, Ken sets his sights on advertising’s biggest night, appearing at the Super Bowl as he goes in search of his next destination.
Turning to Expedia – “The one place you go to go places” – to help him on his way, the spot titled ‘Going Places with Ken’ sees the new brand ambassador and first-time traveller get a taste of destinations like Italy, Japan and Mexico City.
Accompanied by helpful narration, the ‘unnamed voice in the sky’ helps to guide Ken through making the most of all that Expedia has to offer, from flexible booking policies and rewards, to the ability to save more by travelling more.
The new creative is accompanied by Ken-themed Super Bowl sweepstakes. Kicking off on Super Bowl Sunday on February 8th, Expedia is giving away $1,000 in OneKeyCash to 65 winners to help them “go places” just like Ken
‘Going Places with Ken’ is Expedia’s first Big Game appearance in four years, its last appearance in 2022 was a 30-second commercial titled ‘Stuff’ starring Ewan McGregor.
Keep up with everything Super Bowl LX here.
