The Assembly Rooms Expands Roster with Editor Jamil

Working closely with a wide range of directors, Jamil has helped shape a substantial body of music videos and commercials that have reached international audiences and defined key moments across culture.

He has been instrumental in the rise of KC Locke as one of his closest collaborators, having worked on a number of standout and industry defining music videos together, including 'Learning Curve' (Aitch), which pushed UK rap visuals into new territory through ambitious VFX, and 'Mini Me's' (Meekz), a landmark release that acted as the final chapter in a hugely influential run of videos, bringing together years of visual innovation that left a lasting impact on the rap scene.

That long-standing collaboration has evolved into major commercial work, most recently a large scale Puma x Manchester City campaign, where the same instinctive, fast-moving and highly inventive approach developed together in the earlier stages of their careers, has been translated into a more structured brand environment.

Across his wider commercial portfolio, Jamil has also worked with clients including Nike, Spotify, C.P. Company, Vans, Puma and Nando’s, consistently elevating brand narratives with pace, precision and creative intent.

Jamil brings a really fresh energy to the company. He is used to working fast, thinking instinctively and figuring things out creatively under pressure.

Known for his precision and instinctive storytelling, he thrives in fast-paced environments, and has worked on set and delivered full edits in as little as 24 hours.

Rather than simply working quickly, he is highly analytical with rushes, always looking to unlock the strongest creative path and ensure the material is pushed as far as it can go. He is focused on honouring the footage and extracting the most effective version of the story, often finding unexpected solutions under pressure through instinct and experience.

He’s very collaborative by nature and has built a lot of long standing relationships with directors and artists through being someone people genuinely enjoy being in the room with. From early pre-visualisation with directors through to close collaboration with VFX teams, he carefully shapes each stage to achieve the strongest possible final result.

“I’ve had a very independent journey as a film editor, I’ve taught myself everything through perseverance and graft. I’m from Manchester and I’ve come up in the industry alongside friends, all of us starting from nothing, carving our own path through the work we have done together early on - this has snowballed into bigger opportunities that have allowed me to work with many people across the industry which I’m immensely grateful for.

Speaking to The Assembly Rooms has shown me the value of being part of a UK edit house. I’ve met a set of people who whilst being inspiring and incredibly respected in the industry are also generous with their expertise and knowledge. Their understanding of my work and genuine interest in me as a person won me over. I’ve never been surrounded by editors with 20+ years of experience before so I’m excited to see how it will deepen my understanding of my craft.”

Jamil speaks fluent German, having moved from Germany to Longsight, Manchester with his mum when he was 12.
