Renowned photographer and director Dean Freeman has directed a visually striking new film to launch Nikon’s Red ZR camera.
The film captures the essence of connection, creativity, and cinematic innovation.
Described by Dean as a “love story — two souls chasing a ribbon,” the film explores movement, instinct, and intimacy through the lens of Nikon’s latest innovation — a camera designed to bring cinematic storytelling into the palm of your hand. Every frame was shot entirely on the Red ZR, which Nikon describes as "a cinema camera that fits in your hand.”
The project was developed in partnership with Hakuhodo, with Dean collaborating closely with directors of photography Christopher Hudson and Joshua Fry. The result is a visually arresting narrative that celebrates the union of Nikon and Red, and the evolving intersection between photography and cinema.
The film is a reflection of the emotional instinct behind image-making — the human connection that drives every frame. The Red ZR allows the user to capture emotion in motion, without losing intimacy or control.
The campaign reflects Dean's signature aesthetic — a blend of evocative imagery, raw authenticity, and storytelling that resonates beyond the screen. With this collaboration, Nikon continues to position itself at the forefront of cinematic creativity, redefining what’s possible in handheld filmmaking.
