BBC Lights Up the UK with Touching Ode to Storytelling

The BBC has launched a campaign to celebrate its commitment to supporting homegrown storytelling. ‘Made of Here’ is an ode to the people, places and cultures across the UK that have inspired the BBC’s greatest content of past, present and future.

The platform launches with a 120” film, highlighting how the BBC brings to life the fabric of a place through its drama, comedy and documentaries. Showcasing Man Like Mobeen and Peaky Blinders in Birmingham, Gavin & Stacey in Barry, Blue Lights in Belfast, Attenborough and the Giant Sea Monster in Dorset, Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams in Preston, The Responder in Liverpool, People Just Do Nothing in Brentford, Only Fools and Horses in Peckham, Dinosaur in Glasgow, Alma’s Not Normal in Bolton, EastEnders in London’s East End, and the drama Shetland – the film will feature across television, cinema, and social, with bespoke audio trails for radio.

Alongside the national film, the platform will activate in towns and cities across all corners of the UK – spotlighting the local areas that have inspired the BBC to tell these stories. These activations will be part of the platform’s evergreen strategy to continue to highlight local stories and drive local pride.

Supporting homegrown storytelling and talent was also baked into the production directed by Newcastle born Dan Emmerson and produced by Somesuch, working with service companies, Sugarfree TV in Manchester and Fjord Films in Belfast. The campaign was filmed across the UK in Belfast, Glasgow, Shetland, Liverpool, Birmingham, Preston, Bolton, Barry Island, Kimmeridge Bay, London’s East End, Peckham, and Brentford. We featured 96 local cast and worked with 120 local crew across the UK in all our filming locations.

The film is also set to the soundtrack of a version of ‘My Home’ by one of the UK’s very own homegrown storytellers, Myles Smith, reimagined by Alex Baranowski.
