Stuart Broad and David Warner put The Ashes rivalry aside to Say G’day in Sydney

9th Dec 2025 - In a surprising turn during The Ashes Down Under, Australian batting legend David Warner took time out to show-off his home city of Sydney to England’s Stuart Broad. The two cricketing greats, known for their legendary on-field and online friendly rivalry, were spotted enjoying a day out in Bondi ahead of the second test in Brisbane.

With Warner as the local host, the photos and footage captured the pair spending a sunny day in Sydney’s iconic beach suburb of Bondi, playing golf together, walking the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk and taking selfies over a flat white, proving that like the countries they represent, it’s all friendly off the pitch.

The duo started their day with a coffee at Bondi Icebergs, overlooking the famous beachside pool, and the pair embraced the beach lifestyle, spending time with the team at the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club. Swapping the beach for the golf course soon after, the athletes’ competitive nature couldn’t be completely put aside, with Broad and Warner photographed playing a round at Bondi Golf Club. The unexpected friendship was cemented with the duo ending their day at North Bondi Fish over cocktails and snacks.

Stuart Broad spoke of the unexpected friendship with David Warner.

“What happens in The Ashes is serious business, but outside of that, being able to experience an incredible destination like Australia is a highlight. When we’re not commentating on the series, David and I are mates, and it’s great to enjoy a day out enjoying all that his hometown of Sydney offers.”

Tourism Australia’s Regional General Manager for the UK, Andrew Boxall says that the unexpected mateship between Stuart Broad and David Warner perfectly encapsulates the connection between the UK and Australia that adds to the appeal of a holiday Down Under.

“Seeing two major cricketing figures, one of them a local champion, genuinely enjoying Australia together is the most authentic testimonial we could ask for. Stuart Broad is in Australia to commentate The Ashes but will leave with lasting memories created with his mate David Warner.

“That’s the lasting memory we invite all Brits to come and make when they Come and say G’Day to Australia.”

This highly publicised display of mateship arrives during a crucial period of interest, with the Men’s Ashes set to draw over 50,000 Brits to Australia over the course of the series. For the millions watching from the UK, the message is clear that the Australian experience offers much more than just sport, it offers a chance to make unforgettable memories. Like Broad and Warner, Brits can discover genuine experiences and connection in Australia.
