Always at the forefront, Uber wanted to re-examine the impact its business and products could have on the world. Sweeping events like the pandemic and social unrest were taking hold in their own backyard, magnifying their desire to take a fresh look at what social and environmental impact could mean for them. How could they leverage their business for good and use their core competencies to better serve their customers and communities?

As consumers were loudly questioning the role of corporations in culture, businesses scrambled to respond—oftentimes at their own peril. The reality was that they could no longer use charity to offset their actions and behaviors; they needed to tap into social impact strategies that would run through their core business, rather than around it.

Our work began with building a business case that highlighted the synergy between external impact and Uber’s bottom line. We then partnered with their global leadership team to develop a 5-year vision for impact, elevating the role they play as a mobility company in societal change. Additionally, we ironed out scalable global plans, investments and program strategies that will resonate with local communities across the world.

Uber has been recognized for leveraging its platform to positively contribute to the world, including offering 10 million vaccine rides and investing heavily in minority-owned businesses.

Our ongoing work continues to shed light on how social impact isn’t just a fleeting term or a nice-to-have—it’s a necessity for modern businesses as they increasingly play a larger role in driving progress.
