On December 18th, 2019, we went into Studio 1 at Angel Studios, London, with thirteen world-class musicians. This was to be the last big band project ever recorded there, and the imminent closure of this internationally renowned studio made the day even more special.

The musicians were hand-picked and featured many of the UK’s most in-demand players, including flautist Andy Panayi, lead trumpeter Simon Gardner, and trombonist Mark Nightingale.

Composer Dick Walter has many years’ experience of writing melodic and beautifully crafted pieces, and on this album, he has produced a selection of tracks which have both rich, changing, textures and contrasting moods. His experience in writing for TV shows such as Bruce Forsyth’s The Generation Game, and classic light entertainment shows, The Two Ronnies, Morecambe & Wise, The Tommy Cooper Show, is evident in his use of melody and counter melody, rich harmonic backgrounds, and ever-changing textures, from rich big-band passages to George Shearing style interludes.

From the 1950s onwards this type of music has always had an attractive, accessible quality, and when practiced by the best in the business it becomes the epitome of ‘Easy Listening’.​
