Sunglasses brand Oakley and tech giant Meta (formerly Facebook) are heading to Super Bowl LX to advertise the brands’ Oakley Meta smart glasses – and with a stacked cast.
Created by Mother Los Angeles, the Big Game spot will be set against the backdrop of one of sport’s biggest moments, and stars director Spike Lee, streamer and influencer iShowSpeed, former NFL player Marshawn Lynch, PGA Tour star Akshay Bhatia, and Olympians Kate Courtney, Sky Brown, and Sunny Choi.
In the full ad, each of these talents will showcase the capabilities of Oakley Meta’s Performance AI Glasses in high-energy, and visceral ways. But today, ahead of the broadcast on February 8th, the brands have dropped a 10-second teaser and promotional stills for the spot.
In the clip, we see the various athletes and entertainers putting on their Oakley Meta smart glasses with dramatic music building tension in the background. Through the backgrounds of the shots, and the reflections in the glasses, eagled-eyed viewers might be able to ascertain some hints about what the stars will be getting up to in the full ad.
Former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is seen with a helmet and harness – perhaps a parachute? – in what looks like the inside of a plane, while notorious New York Knicks fan Spike Lee (‘Do the Right Thing’, ‘Malcolm X’) appears to be courtside at a pick-up basketball game. The olympians are also in their respective elements, while iShowSpeed seems to be gearing up for yet another display of his own rapid pace on a runway.

The Twitch streamer then interrupts the silent, steely gazes with one command that no doubt sets up the action to come in the full game-day ad: “Hey Meta, record this!”
iShowSpeed is no stranger to action sequences because as well as challenging various celebrities and athletes to footraces and other physical contests, the streamer recently starred in a kung-fu epic, directed by Love Song’sDaniel Wolfe for audio brand Beats.
The short film was created by LA-based agency MIRIMAR, and saw ‘Speed’ (real name Darren Watkins) take on mystical martial arts training and fight opponents with ‘Crouching Tiger’-esque style.
To see what thrilling activities he and the rest of the impressive cast get up to for Oakley and Meta, fans will have to wait until the Super Bowl broadcast on February 8th.
