The 1,800 square metre gallery space is the most expansive science and biodiversity gallery in Museums Victoria's history

The most expansive science and biodiversity gallery in Museums Victoria’s history has opened, with a film centrepiece brought to life by M+C Saatchi Group’s production house, Resolution Design.

The multi-sensory gallery ‘Our Wondrous Planet’ spans 1,800 square metres at Melbourne Museum, showcasing four different ecosystems that play major roles in the vitality of the planet: reef, rainforest, ice, and soil.

“’Our Wondrous Planet’ is a hugely significant project for us - it's a gallery on a global scale,” Hamish Palmer, creative director of exhibitions at Museums Victoria said.

“We're aiming to inspire a sense of wonder in the incredible biodiversity all around us and empower visitors to take action to protect our wondrous planet for generations to come. Resolution's beautiful work at the heart of this gallery establishes and continually renews the gallery's sweeping message of interconnectedness, wonder and hope.”

At the centre of the exhibition is the ‘Global Life Flow’ film project, illustrating central themes through a visually stunning and emotionally engaging cinematic experience.

Resolution Design developed and designed the film in collaboration with the museum’s project and curatorial teams, research scientists, and First Nations storyshapers, to blend science with First Peoples knowledge systems.

Using motion graphics and 3D animation projected onto a translucent, double-sided cylindrical canvas, the film presents the interconnectedness of Earth’s living systems and the flows of life that link us all. It was designed to be distinctive, dynamic, and beautiful, synchronising with lighting effects and a multichannel soundscape to create full immersion.

Jeff Jaffers, creative producer at Resolution Design said, “‘Global Life Flow’ is a synergy of design, science, and First Peoples storytelling. It is a fantastic collaboration with Museums Victoria, and we couldn't be prouder of the work, which sits beautifully at the intersection of creativity and culture.”

‘Our Wondrous Planet’ is now open at Melbourne Museum.
