The cinematic, ‘Blade Runner’-inspired spot for Arnold Thomas & Becker comes nearly two years after the founder sold Akkomplice to Howatson+Co, Tom Loudon reports

Kopilot Consulting, a new creative venture founded by Kenny Hill, has launched its maiden campaign for law firm Arnold Thomas & Becker -- a dystopian showdown between a lawyer and ‘the system’.

The work marks Kenny’s creative return, after spending more than 11 years at the helm of indie agency Akkomplice, which he sold to fellow indie Howatson+Co in 2024. Akkomplice led campaigns for brands including Kellogg’s, Slater & Gordon, Darrell Lea, and Mercedes.

Kopilot’s first work marks 60 years for the personal injury specialists, which engaged Kopilot with a brief to boldly challenge category conventions. Kenny engaged former M&C Saatchi colleague Andy Flemming to develop the ‘Blade Runner’-inspired TVC, which uses cinematic visuals to represent ‘the system’ everyday Australians navigate to seek legal recourse.

“With an ambitious client willing to back brave work, we were able to take a creative leap and show Arnold Thomas & Becker as the fearless champions of everyday Aussies, with the expertise required to take on the system -- and win,” Kenny said.

“Arnold Thomas & Becker didn’t just ask for brave ideas -- they trusted us to deliver them. With a small, agile team and the outstanding craft of our collaborators, this work proves what can be achieved when an ambitious client inspires and empowers its partners to do their best work.”

The campaign’s vast, intimidating manifestation of overwhelming and complex legal systems reappropriates the ubiquitous legal advertising mantra ‘No win, no fee’ with the tagline “No win, no fee, no fear”.

Directed by The ProducersMitch Kennedy, an expanded team of CG artists and technicians led by Atmos Studios collaborated on the creative’s striking visual elements, including towering data servers, labyrinthine cables, and a nightmarish, glowing red eye.

‘The system’, Mitch explained, was crafted with a focus on bold visuals to achieve “epic symbolism”.

“Working closely with the clients and the team at Kopilot, our focus was on how we could use both nuanced film craft and big, bold visuals to create the epic symbolism of The System,” he said.

“With so much riding on visual effects, we partnered with the talented humans at Atmos Studios who pushed the boundaries of technology to bring this ominous entity to the screen with enormous passion and skill.”

Arnold Thomas & Becker chief commercial officer, Kalle Amanatides, called the campaign “outstanding”, adding the law firm was “hugely impressed” by the creative team’s “outstanding, cinematic” work.

“From the first meeting to the final approvals, we knew we were in the hands of passionate, talented people who understood our brand and rose to our challenge to deliver brave, exciting work,” Kalle said.

With media planning and buying from Sanctuary Media, the 60-second TVC is backed by practice-specific cut-downs across multiple channels, including radio, large-format outdoor, digital, and social.
