BAD RAINBOW is a boutique production and post-production company built around a carefully curated, multilevel roster of directors, photographers, editors, and animators. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model, they assemble bespoke teams tailored specifically to each project’s creative vision, scale, and budget, ensuring the right talent is paired with the right brief every time.
By operating with flexibility and intention, they deliver high-quality, visually compelling content while remaining efficient and budget-conscious. This approach allows brands and agencies of all sizes to access premium creative talent without unnecessary overhead, timelines, or complexity.
What sets them apart is its ability to balance agility with care. The process is designed to be nimble, collaborative, and genuinely enjoyable, without sacrificing craftsmanship or attention to detail. Clients receive the same trusted, white-glove experience BR is known for, alongside a modern, refreshing production model that adapts seamlessly to the evolving creative landscape. Available anywhere and everywhere.
Below, we hear more from founder and executive producer, Ash Bruce.
Ash> Bad Rainbow has existed as an entity for 15 years, originating when I held a permalance position at a Post house.
After years of orchestrating our team and managing the well-oiled machine we built, covid hit and my mind began to race. I experienced a strong revelation to form a new way of working. It became clear that going into the same office every day was no longer the best use of my time.
In 2023, I decided to officially launch BR as a company that reflects my years of production and post-production experience, resourceful capabilities, and the strong relationships I’ve built with directors, editors, and animators. I wanted to connect with more talented creatives in the world to expand my horizons and meet more skilled freelancers capable of creating exceptional content.
BR aims to be an ambassador for the freelance community.
Ash> Bad Rainbow just sort of came out. It felt nice, bold, interesting, disruptive… and kind of “WTF does that even mean?” and I loved that.
It’s ambiguous and open-ended, which is exactly how BR operates. We remain fluid and fearless, able to shape-shift to curate the best possible outcome for each project. We love diversifying, staying nimble, and ultimately having fun producing whatever the f**k we feel like.
Ash> #1 - In May of this past year we produced a fun project for an agency called Familiar Creatures in Richmond, Va for their client Chesapeake Bank located in the Northern Neck of Virginia. Their initial creative deck included bold text that read 'Can we find a Duck Boat?'. Duck boats are apparently no longer a 'thing' due to a tragic accident that occurred in 2017. The agency had been searching for the amphibious vehicle before the prompt went out to potential production partners. I knew that if I found a "duck boat", we had a higher potential to win the job. Long story short I found that beautiful boat, presented a seasoned comedy director, an Emmy-nominated comedy editor and we won the project.
#2 - In March of this year an agency called Simkins Lightbulb Company tasked with sourcing a designer/animator to help create a cosmic, psychedelic and trippy intro animation for a documentary to be released in 2026. We enlisted London-based designer/animator, Paul Goldsmith, to create the visuals.
Here is the magic we made with that agency (headphones are recommended).
#3 - In September, a consulting firm out of Atlanta needed a purpose film created for a global client. The project required a vendor that could capture their client’s multiple headquarters within a single week. BR enlisted three of our best docu-style director/DPs. One to shoot in the western regions, one in the Midwest, and one further east. Everything went off without a hitch, and our selected senior editors each crafted beautiful two-minute films that left the client thrilled with the outcome. It was truly a proud moment.
Ash> I - our founder/EP - race dirt bikes on the weekends.
Ash> It's competitive out there! There are a lot of great companies producing strong work. We're just doing our best to swim with the sharks.
Ash> I’m always proudest when the crew, agency, and client come together for a group photo at the end of a long shoot day - proud of what we’ve all accomplished as a team. But most of all, I’m proud of the trust we earn from our crew, teammates, and clients.
Ash> There's a film by the docu-filmmakers 'Moon Snail' in collaboration with Simkins Lightbulb Company, which we created the sonic animations, that is going to be an incredibly visually enjoyable experience. Their thoughtful storytelling combined with our sonic design will create an immersive film that will draw the audience in. It's gonna be amazing.
