Rune Milton has unveiled Carry The Fire, new work for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
Produced by Revolver Films with cinematography by Paul Meyers, the film portrays a couples journey through a cancer diagnosis, illustrating the strength to endure the impossible - evoking the greatest power in our universe, the fire of the sun.
Set to Joep Beving’s 'Midwayer', the discussion of a stage 4 cancer unfolds as the music carries us through images of memory and dreams of their life together. Nostalgia for what was, is intercut with imagery evoking the strength to overcome. As the wife embarks on a course of treatment, the husband is compelled to travel into the sun to harness its power as a metaphor for hope for a cure and the love for his wife.
The pain of losing the ones we love to a disease that can be fought is the heartbeat of this work. Starting with the voice of a doctor, the film moves through the fight a family must take on to endure this level of suffering - to find a way through the impossible.
Shot with intimacy and weight, every frame reflects lives bound together. The sun’s fire becomes a powerful beacon of the strength passed from one to another, in this journey of resilience and hope.
Carry The Fire is not only about struggle, but about what connects us in the face of it. Souls in time and space, bound by memory, love, and the images that outlast us. The film asks us to imagine what it means to keep going, and to hope that one day we can overcome this disease for all.
