About 17 times a day, I’m convinced I was born in the wrong era.
A lot of that probably has to do with the music I’m listening to - whether I’m walking, talking, or more pertinently in this case... groovin’.
My daydreams of yesteryear are soundtracked by a glorious ensemble of genres and scenes, but one that really pulls me in is Brit Funk. If I could jump in a time machine and land slap bang in the middle of a weekender in Canvey Island, circa 1984? Take my money. All of it.
With its deep basslines, slick production, hooky melodies and brassy horn sections that punch right through your chest, Brit Funk is one of the few things that genuinely stirs a sense of patriotism in me. It’s like a well-dressed reminder that Britain really can boogie.
This isn’t the definitive Brit Funk playlist, just a few tracks that have stirred my soul, got my feet shuffling, and made me wonder - yet again, if I missed my true era by about four decades.
MAKE BRIT FUNK GREAT AGAIN.
