Canadian Creative Studio Plot Makes Official Debut

With a portfolio of work already under its belt, the Toronto-based shop, co-founded by Maxim Vlassenko, Rahul Madan and Eric Richards, is now fully open for business, reports LBB’s Jordan Won Neufeldt

Maxim Vlassenko, former senior creative director at UNINTERRUPTED Canada, and What I Like Studio co-founders Rahul Madan and Eric Richards have partnered up to launch Plot. A Toronto-based hybrid creative studio built to close the gap between strategy, creative and production, the three will combine their skills to help international brands and agencies shape stories and bring them to life in quick, collaborative fashion.

With the aim of stripping away the barriers that slow down creative work, Rahul (managing director), Maxim (executive producer) and Eric (creative director) are emphasising staying agile, and offering clients a streamlined process. According to Maxim, this, combined with the trio’s “untraditional backgrounds” are the shop’s “superpower”, allowing it to ensure work actually connects with audiences.

“We’ve paired [our backgrounds] with traditional production expertise and a hands-on approach across years of experience,” he explains. “The ambition is to grow in a way that doesn’t water down our voice – staying nimble, intentional, and focused on projects that truly excite us. We’re not trying to be the biggest, but we are trying to be the sharpest.”

In many ways, Plot represents the fulfilment of curiosity for the co-founders. Having laid the company’s foundation over the past decade through various collaborations, the chance to dive deep into the process behind characters, stories and how they’re represented, as a team, made this move feel like a “natural next step”.

“Each of us comes from a different background – from fashion design and music creative direction to photography and commercial production – and that mix gave our partnership its DNA,” Maxim continues. “Launching Plot meant creating a space to blur the line between creative and production, and deliver work shoulder-to-shoulder with our partners.”

Coming Out Swinging

Already, Plot has a few successful projects – some of which have won awards – under its belt. Already having delivered a mix of cultural campaigns, evergreen brand storytelling and global platforms for the likes of Stella Artois, Holt Renfrew, Maxwell House, and Saje Natural Wellness, the studio has made a statement, proving its range of capabilities early, and building accreditation in the process.

“Our projects underline our flexibility,” Maxim notes. “We can be nimble and reactive, or methodical, research-driven, and traditional, scaling up or down without compromise. From international TVC productions to digital campaigns and community storytelling, the throughline is that the end product always feels authentic and elevated.

In particular, the Holt Renfrew undertaking stands out to Eric. An opportunity which saw the team partner up with SUPERFANTASTIC and FUNCTION to deliver the brand’s 2025 Pride campaign, this chance to celebrate community, self-expression and chosen family proved to be a resonant experience.

“Holt Renfrew was a special kind of project – more time, more learning, and deeper research to fully understand the stories we were exploring,” he recalls. “It was about honouring the culture and community at the heart of the campaign.”

Meanwhile, the Stella Artois collaboration is memorable for Rahul. A project which saw Plot take to Wimbledon with a small crew (alongside GUT Amsterdam, draftLine and Vayner Media), here, it proved its ability to deliver reactive decision-making, tight collaboration, and attention to detail, producing the tournament’s highest-performing content and reinforcing the brand’s leadership amongst global sponsors.

"Working with Plot has been an incredible experience,” recalls Stella Artois’ global marketing director André Amaral. “[The team] brought strategy, creativity, and production together seamlessly, making the process feel effortless. They’re collaborative, nimble, and always focused on craft, which makes them partners I can trust time and again."

Echoing the praise is Jess Willis, executive creative director at Saje Natural Wellness. Noting that the “landscape of modern advertising has changed”, she highlights the team’s pivotal role in aiding the brand’s creative process and production – something she’s truly grateful for.

“Plot truly understands our needs as a digitally-forward company and maker-culture, helping us to produce and create content libraries of work through motion and stills that can flex as needed throughout the consumer journey. What’s more, craft is never compromised, and corners are never cut to truly deliver best-in-class campaigns at the speed of culture.”

Collaborating Without Ego

Looking to future projects, Plot’s leadership asserts that a one-size-fits-all approach would be detrimental for their business. Rather, they believe in bringing together the best team for each individual story, offering a degree of fluidity in the pursuit of work that feels real and relevant.

“Every project has its own personality, so we match it with the right creative voices,” Eric says, to which Rahul adds, “[This system] also makes us extremely scalable; we can go small and nimble, or bring in larger teams when needed, without compromising quality or process. Creative through post-production, we stay hands-on with partners and bring in collaborators who are the right fit for each project.”

As part of this, Maxim, Eric and Rahul collectively agree that embracing a multidisciplinary mindset, and staying quick, flexible and always intentional, is the best business path forward. A philosophy which will help the business move ideas to the screen at the speed of culture – without sacrificing craft – this entire model is designed for the future of advertising, offering the ability to deliver solutions at any stage of the process.

“We embed early with stakeholders, bring strategy in from the outset, and cut the lag between creative and production, so we can react quickly without cutting corners,” Eric elaborates. “That’s how we move at the speed of culture while still protecting the work.”

“It’s also about trust,” Maxim adds. “Clients know we’ll jump in early, adapt when things change, and still deliver something polished. That confidence is what makes the process smoother and faster.”

This approach, combined with an emphasis on flexibility, reflects Plot’s goal of cultivating meaningful long-term relationships. Having seen the creative benefits of taking the time to build trust and operate like an extension of the client’s team, the studio plans to start in this endeavour by first placing an emphasis on listening – a major part of its ethos.

“[We listen] to clients, to culture, and to each other,” Rahul notes. “From there, we develop creative with production fully integrated, so ideas move efficiently and tastefully from start to finish. Our ambition is to be known as great people and great partners, no matter where we step in along the journey – across strategy, design, or production through post-production. It’s about setting up processes that respect both the idea and the people involved, and collaborating without ego.”

As such, Maxim, Eric and Rahul are excited to show the industry precisely what their studio can do now that operations are in full swing. An opportunity to push forward alongside people they respect, projects they believe in, with clients they value, for all three, this opportunity is a special one, and something they’re eager to push further.

“It’s about ownership – of our process, our voice, and the kind of work we want to put into the world,” Maxim concludes. “It feels like the culmination of years of collaboration, but also the beginning of building the kind of culture we’ve always wanted to work in.”
