Mother has promoted Tomas Coleman and Derek Man Lui to executive creative directors.
In their new roles, they will report to Felix Richter and lead creative for KFC and other brands. They join the ECD team at Mother in London which is Hollie Walker, Nick Hallbery, Tom Bender and Kirsty Minns.
Tomas and Derek joined Mother in 2024 and have since been behind some of the agency's highest profile work: the 'Keep Thinking' platform for Anthropic's Claude, which reaffirmed the power of human creativity in an AI world; 'Everything is Fine' for Coinbase, which brought British humour and musical theatre to crypto, generating 300m+ organic views. 'Anatomy of a Champion' for FIGS at Paris 2024, the first campaign to focus on the medical teams behind the games. For Meta Quest, they took the brand from low gaming credibility to genuine respect - Supersized Stream was an entertainment platform that generated 290m+ organic views and sold-out products. Most recently, the duo created KFC's 'Hawkins Fried Chicken' collaboration with Stranger Things, and will continue to lead on the brand.
The pair have been a partnership for six years. They first teamed up at Wieden+Kennedy London, where they were behind national campaigns for Sainsbury's as well as global work for Nike. Felix then hired them at Droga5 New York - though he left before their visas came through. At Droga5, they created the first global brand platform for Meta and the Xbox Rats campaign.
Tomas and Derek said, “It's been brilliant joining Mother at such a strong moment. The talent and generosity of the team have made us feel right at home from day one. We’re excited for the challenge.”
Felix Richter, CCO of Mother, said, "Tomas and Derek have an impressive body of work at Mother. They're kind and talented people who instinctively earn the trust of those around them. It's a pleasure to have them join Mother's creative leadership."
Derek is from San Francisco and has worked in China, Europe, the US and the UK for agencies including BBH, AKQA, Wieden+Kennedy London and Droga5. Tomas is from Pembrokeshire and started his career in Wales at The Do Lectures and Hiut Denim, before joining Derek at Wieden+Kennedy London.
