Merman has welcomed acclaimed filmmaker Ben Wheatley to the branded team.
Ben has a huge range of directing styles, bending genres and minds alike. His early career saw him directing viral commercials, music videos, the self funded crime feature ‘Down Terrace’ and cult psychological horror ‘Kill List’. From there he went on to direct the darkly humorous ‘Sightseers’ which catapulted him onto the global stage shooting ‘High Rise & Free Fire’ featuring the likes Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons and Sienna Miller. In between, Ben still found the time to flex his muscles in advertising directing funny off the wall ads for T-Mobile, Premier Inn, Thomas Cook amongst others.
Ben still remains true to his roots though recently completing the sci-fi thriller ‘Bulk’ journeying through alternate realities using experimental film techniques and stop-frame animation which goes on tour around the UK early next year. This supersedes his next big Hollywood film release, the highly anticipated neo-Western ‘Normal’ starring Bob Odenkirk.
Re-uniting after eight years, EP and partner Siobhan Murphy is ecstatic about Ben Wheatley coming on board with Merman.
“I am a die hard Ben Wheatley fan (who isn’t?!) and his recent music video for Sleaford Mods featuring the incredible Gwendoline Christie (‘Game of Thrones’) prompted me to get in touch again. As soon as we met it was just like old times. I literally cannot wait to begin this new chapter together.”
Ben Wheatley said, “Really excited to be working with the Merman team and making some cool stuff. They have their fingers in a lot of wonderful media pies! And I’m looking forward to what the New Year brings!”
