Wise, the global technology company building the best way to move and manage the worldʼs money, has launched 'Don T. Overpay.' This bold new character is a larger than life advice expert on a mission to help Americans who make silly financial faux pas.
Don T, brought to life by writer, influencer and sketch comedian Mohammed Mohammed, can be seen in a social content campaign shared to Mohammed’s social channels @alloramomo on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, as well as Wise’s landing page. Humorous videos put Don T. in the middle of absurd, but still relatable scenarios showing how it’s easy to not even realise you’re about to make a financial choice you’ll regret. A lovestruck New Yorker hiring a British doppelganger to impress her crush and a Nonna flying half her Sicilian village in for authentic carbonara are just the start as Don T. looks to help his clients avoid the worst mistake of all: using a bank or traditional provider to send money overseas.
According to a survey commissioned in 2024 by Wise from Edgar, Dunn & Company (EDC), a global research firm, US consumers and small businesses will lose more than $38.9 billion to hidden fees when sending money abroad in 2025. With Don T. Overpay leading the charge, Wise is highlighting how banks and traditional providers continue to get away with charging inflated rates and confusing fees - and why it’s time for consumers to be smart and get Wise.
“Americans sending money abroad are dealing with a slow, expensive, and confusing process that often involves hidden fees and unexpected charges,” said Harsh Sinha, chief technology officer and US president of Wise. “While the experiences in these videos are absurd and silly, the reality is that Americans don’t realise they’re paying more than they need to. We created the character of Don T. Overpay to shed light on the lived financial experience millions of people face, and showcase that there’s a better, smarter way to move your money internationally.”
“Don T. isn’t a lawyer. He’s more like your loud, protective friend who’ll knock over his own desk to save you a buck.” added Mohammed Mohammed, actor and creator behind Don T. Overpay. “Working together with the Wise team to create Don and find his voice has been a blast. I look forward to finding more questionable financial mistakes Don can help correct, especially when it comes to sending money abroad.”
Wise is fully transparent in its fees, using the real mid-market exchange rate - the one on Google - and keeps costs as low as possible. That’s why 15.6 million customers globally trust Wise to hold, spend, send and receive more than 40 currencies. Plus, over 70% of payments sent with Wise arrive instantly.
With a bit of craziness, cultural commentary, and genuine consumer advocacy, Wise is inviting Americans to laugh at their mistakes, learn from them, and understand why Wise is the smartest way to send money internationally.
