Diffraqtion Illuminates the Art of Seeing in Poetic Brand Film

Brand film by Only Child’s Youngest Sibling Studio showcases Diffraqtion’s ground breaking satellite camera system

Youngest Sibling has taken part in shaping a story for Diffraqtion’s first brand film, concepted to translate science and create a visual language about their ground breaking technology.

This film draws a poetic parallel between the human eye and Diffraqtion’s pioneering technology, exploring how both the retina and the camera perceive, process, and translate light into image.

Through a series of experiments and visual studies, with director Callum Pearson at the forefront, visually translating the science at hand, Youngest Sibling precisely illustrates the journey of light as it moves through the human eye and through Diffraqtion’s advanced optical system. Entirely built in 3D, the film features original models of the satellite and camera, created in close collaboration with specialist 3D artists.

The result is a seamless fusion of science and art - a visual exploration that celebrates both human perception and technological innovation.

Director Callum Pearson elaborates, “Over the past few years, I’ve developed a strong passion for creating space-themed visuals, which has given me both the confidence and inspiration to take on this project. Being asked to bring this film to life genuinely felt like a dream come true.

A while back, for a music video, my art director and I built a satellite entirely from bits and pieces found in local shops. It’s surreal to now be collaborating with 3D artists to design and model satellites that a real aerospace company is sending into orbit.

Last year, I fell deep into a Pink Floyd rabbit hole - so much so that I ended up in the top 2% of their listeners on Spotify. During R&D for this project, we tested how light moves through different materials and even recreated a 3D version of the Dark Side of the Moon prism. Seeing that iconic image come to life was incredible, though we later learned from the astrophysicists that light behaves differently, which means that version never made the final cut.

For the music, I worked with the composer to revive a track we first began years ago for a VR project called Lunar Explorer, where we built the surface of the Moon for an exhibition. It’s amazing to see something originally designed to sound like space become the soundtrack for a project that’s actually about space.

At its heart, this project reflects what drives me most: the intersection of art, technology, and science. Collaborating with Diffraqtion - who are literally pushing the boundaries of how we see our world - feels deeply aligned with my own creative purpose. I’ve always been drawn to work that sits at the edge of exploration, where imagination meets discovery and where storytelling translates complexity into emotion and image. Working with innovators shaping the future of space imaging has been both inspiring and grounding - a reminder of why I love making films that connect science and art in new, visual ways. “
